The ICPC participated at the 2023 PNI Fall Coordination Meeting

On November 1, Ann Champoux, Director General of the ICPC, took part in the 2023 Fall Coordination Meeting of the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme Network (PNI) in Vancouver. This participation is part of the ICPC’s mission within the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

The objectives for achieving the Kyoto Declaration’s sustainable development programme on promoting crime prevention, by 2030, were central to the discussions.  Members also discussed their organization’s recent activities and projects to counter international crime.

As part of this mission to Vancouver, it was also an opportunity to attend the “Combatting Crypto Crime” Colloquium organized by the Vancouver Anti-Corruption Institute (within the International Centre for Criminal Law Reform and Criminal Justice Policy) on November 2. Various experts in criminal justice, commercial law, and international financial crime discussed the challenges and risks represented today by the use of cryptocurrencies on various international markets.

Solutions such as better governance to prevent fraud and money laundering, as well as strengthening the legislative framework, were presented in order to regulate the use of cryptocurrencies in the coming years.
